Forage Shawl

Gathering from hedgerows. Rummaging in baskets and drawers. Searching through dusty attics and basements and barns. To forage is to go on a treasure hunt for delicious, valuable, or beautiful things among the weeds or clutter of life. It’s a word I sometimes think of when I’m looking for the perfect skein or scrap in my stash.

The Forage Shawl is a lovely asymmetrical triangle shawl made in wide stripes of beautiful, easy lace. The pattern of eyelets and triangles is simple to memorise, with a lovely rhythm. The lace sections are broken up with quiet panels of stockinette stitch, to rest your hands and heart and to help the pattern pop.

I’ve designed this shawl as a beautiful way to use up scraps or minis, but it would be lovely in a gradient even in just one colour to really show off the lace. It’s an easy, relaxing knit, and just as easy to wear and style: romantic with a modern twist.

Fingering weight yarn 80m/87yds per 20g mini skein, 7 x 20g mini skeins

Sample used approximately 100g (400m/440yds) of fingering weight yarn in total, in 7 different colours.
The colours are named in the directions A-G based on the order of colours I used in the sample.

4mm (US 6), 100cm (40”) long circular needles (or size to obtain gauge)
